Question 3

3. For question #2, explain how your new post successfully addresses the three main objectives of Plain English writing as discussed in class. Provide a detailed breakdown of each objective. (9 Marks)

Be clear

The revised version of my post includes simple, direct language so readers can clearly understand what the blog is about and the what the café is. I prioritized using short sentences with simple words that are straight to the point to avoid ambiguity. For example, “We are Windsor’s first dog café.” clearly states one of the cafe’s unique features.

Be concise

The new post avoids unnecessary words and repetitive phrases. For example, in the original post I included “fostering moments of joy and connection,” which was vague and wordy. For the revised version I replaced it with a more direct statement: “We’re a community hub where humans and dogs connect.”

Be correct

The content was tailored and organized to meet the reader’s needs. All the information in the blog post is correct and up to date in a way every reader should understand and get the message. To make it easier to scan I added more headers and bullet points that stand out among the other texts and helps the readers find what they are looking for.

  1. Describe one specific technique you used to improve readability in your revised version and explain why it is effective. (4 Marks)

The biggest change to improve readability was to add heading and bullets points. I used this technique because it breaks the text into smaller sections, that are easier for readers to scan and find what they need. If the content is too long in big blocks with no breaks and no heading identifying what the body is about, it is a lot harder to read since it requires the reader to read word by word instead of just scanning it to find what they want, which might make them give up on reading it. This is effective because web users often scan content, and visuals like bullet points and headers guide their attention.

b. What was the most challenging aspect of applying the F-Pattern and Plain English writing principles? How did you overcome it? (5 Marks)

The most challenging part of applying the F-pattern and Plain English writing principles was the placement and balance the content. It is hard to decide where to place each text and image to make it F-Pattern and still make the content engaging.

To overcome it, I tested some variations, placing images and texts on different spots until I found a layout that looks good and engaging.
